 Priority of Service to Veterans

BerkshireWorks gives priority of services to qualified veterans (and other covered individuals) when referring individuals to job openings, DOL funded training programs and related services in accordance with the implementation of the Veterans' Priority Provisions of the "Jobs for Veterans Act" (PL 107-288),

Any person who identifies himself or herself as a veteran (or spouse or dependent child of a veteran killed in combat, or of a 100% disabled veteran whose disability is service connected, or of a member on active duty who is listed as missing in action, captured in the line of duty, or forcibly detained) shall be considered for priority of services. Qualified veterans will receive priority referral to services over non-veterans as determined by each program's mandatory eligibility criteria.

The local Career Center Veterans’ Representative will obtain necessary documentation to verify eligibility for intensive services.

Any questions regarding Priority of Services should be directed to the Career Center Veterans’ Representative, Dave Nash at dnash@detma.org or call the Career Center at (413) 499-2220 ext.110.

Dave Nash is available in North Adams Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30am. to 5:00 pm. and in Pittsfield Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 am. to 3:30 pm.

Disabled Veterans' Outreach

Our Disabled Veterans' Outreach Program Specialists (DVOPS) develop job and training opportunities for veterans, with special emphasis on veterans with service-connected disabilities.

DVOP Specialists provide direct services to veterans to help them to compete in the labor market. They provide outreach and offer assistance to disabled and other veterans by promoting community and employer support for employment and training opportunities, including apprenticeship and on-the-job training.

DVOP Specialists work with employers, veterans' organizations, the U. S.Department of Veterans Affairs and the U. S. Department of Defense, and community-based organizations to link veterans with appropriate jobs and training opportunities.

DVOP Specialists serve as case managers for veterans enrolled in federally-funded job training programs such as the Department of Veterans Affairs' Vocational Rehabilitation program, and other veterans with serious disadvantages in the job market. DVOPs are available to those veterans and their employers to help ensure that necessary follow up services are provided to promote job retention.

The U.S. Department of Labor provides funding for DVOP specialist positions. These specialists are located in One-Stop Career Centers across the state.

DVOP Specialists may also be stationed at regional offices and medical or veterans' outreach centers of the Department of Veterans Affairs, state or county veterans' service offices, community-based organizations, and military installations.
